We offer long-term, low-cost counselling for people suffering from addiction, but we don't turn anyone away who is in need of therapy. We offer therapy for up to two years, the duration is for you to negotiate with your specific counsellor.
Counselling can help you to explore the reasons why you drink, help to acknowledge the quantity you are drinking and help you to identify your particular cues and triggers that prompt you to drink. Together we can help you come up with strategies to help you cut back, manage, and stop drinking when you feel ready.
Once you have stopped drinking, counselling can help you to deal with some of the emotional issues that have been preventing you from moving forward.
We teach you how to stay in the here and now rather than focusing on the past or the future. Before you have learnt this technique is not the right time to deal with your past issues. When you are ready and want to, then the issues behind your drinking can be worked through and processed. We have nearly fifty counsellors working at the project all of whom belong to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and who have had specialist training around alcohol issues.
Sessions last for 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week with your allocated therapist. The duration of the counselling is negotiable between client and therapist, the client controls the pace of the therapy.
In order to access the counselling you just need to phone 0117 9892521 and ask for an appointment for an assessment, or email our Counselling Services Manager firstname.lastname@example.org Our fully qualified counsellors who carry out the assessments will ask you a few questions and go through our confidentiality policy with you. During the assessment we can work out how much you will pay each week for your sessions. The assessment costs £15 if you are waged or £10 if you are unwaged.
