1:1 Counselling

We offer long-term low-cost counselling. This can go on for up to two years. The duration is for you to negotiate with your specific counsellor. Counselling can help you to explore the reasons why you drink, help to acknowledge the quantity you are drinking and help you to identify your particular cues and triggers that prompt you to drink.  It can also help you to come up with strategies to reduce or stop your drinking.

Once you have stopped drinking, counselling can help you to deal with some of the emotional issues that have been preventing you from moving forward.  We teach you how to stay in the here and now rather than focusing on the past or the future. Before you have learnt this technique is not the right time to deal with your past issues. When you are ready and want to then the issues behind your drinking can be worked through and processed. We have nearly forty counsellors working at the project all of whom belong to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and who have had specialist training around alcohol issues.

Sessions last for 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week for a number of weeks.  The duration of the counselling is negotiable between client and therapist.  The client controls the pace of the therapy.

In order to access the counselling you just need to phone 0117 9892521 and ask for an appointment for an assessment. The counsellor doing the assessment will ask you a few questions and go through our confidentiality policy with you. During the assessment you can negotiate the fee you will pay each week. The assessment costs £10 or £5 if you are unemployed.
