Volunteer as a Counsellor

The SWAN project provides placements for qualified counsellors as well as therapists in training. We have up to 60 counsellors working at the project at any one time.

We open the doors for applications twice per year (please see next date at the bottom of this page).

​

We expect volunteers to offer at least four sessions a week.  We provide four hours of supervision with a group of up to four peers, twice monthly in accordance with BACP guidelines.

​

Volunteers need to be a member of BACP or an equivalent body, have an up-to-date enhanced DBS check (that is for working with adults) and are expected to pay £60 per month towards the cost of their supervision and training.

​

You will need to attend an induction day, two training days on working with clients with addictions, one training day on working with trauma and one day of admin training.  Training days happen on  weekends and 12pm - 5pm in our building and include a shared lunch.
